Delve into the heartfelt journey of a millennial father who imparts an ancient practice to his sons, guiding them through life’s challenges. This poignant documentary challenges antiquated stereotypes of Black Fatherhood, offering a moving portrayal of modern parenting. Premiering at the prestigious American Black Film Festival (ABFF), the film left audiences moved and applauding for its intention and impact.
Approach
It was critical for us to translate the wealth of emotions that exuded from the pages of this story, to a movie experience that captured the tender essence of this modern family.
We created story and style boards, as well as created a shot list that perfectly married the objective of the loose script, which we also conceptualized. We were diligent in our location scouting, recognizing that we needed a multifunctional, easy to transform location, to keep costs down, as well as to be efficient on time. We were intentional about every shot and detail, even choosing to put this family of Black Men in yellow clothing to amplify the feeling of optimism, joy and confidence associated with the color.
The goal was to make audiences feel like a fly on the wall, car, kitchen table or any place they shared space together.
